Where the governments disagree on Suriname
Assessments of Suriname split along a recognisable line: the Anglophone governments are uniformly more relaxed than everyone else, at level 1 against level 2. Divergence that tracks a bloc rather than a single government often reflects differing diplomatic posture or consular history as much as differing risk on the ground.
Currency varies between sources. South Korea's is the oldest assessment of Suriname on file, last revised in May 2025, while the rest have been reviewed more recently.
The warnings for Suriname are not uniform across the country. Two distinct areas are singled out by at least one government. Among them: Palm Garden (Park Palmentuin) in Paramaribo (after dark) and Paramaribo and its surroundings. At least one of these carries the highest possible rating, meaning a government advising against all travel there while rating the rest of the country lower.
The level 3 rating from South Korea and Poland carries practical weight even if your own government is more relaxed — insurers commonly price against, or exclude, travel contrary to official advice, so the rating that matters most is the one issued for your passport.
