Where the governments disagree on Myanmar

Taiwan alone rates Myanmar at level 2. Every other government places it higher, from level 3 to level 4, with the largest group at level 4. Where one government is markedly more relaxed than the rest, the safer planning assumption is the majority view rather than the most reassuring one.

Currency varies between sources. South Korea's is the oldest assessment of Myanmar on file, last revised in June 2025, while the rest have been reviewed more recently.

The warnings for Myanmar are not uniform across the country. 13 distinct areas are singled out by at least one government. Among them: Specific areas and In the Mon State, excluding the city of Mawlamyine;. At least one of these carries the highest possible rating, meaning a government advising against all travel there while rating the rest of the country lower.

Seven of the twelve governments currently advise against all travel, and that has consequences beyond the wording: most policies void cover for travel taken against your own government's advice, and consular assistance may be limited or unavailable on the ground.

Derived from 12 government assessments for Myanmar, most recently reviewed in October 2026.
